Who I work with
Who do I work with?
With adults beginning therapy for the first time and with those returning to it after a while, and with couples. What they bring is usually concrete, and the first task is to name it precisely before deciding what to do about it.
- Couples therapy: a relationship that has become hard to talk about
- Anxiety that will not settle
- A breakup or a bereavement
- An infidelity, and the decision whether to stay
- Self-esteem that has taken a hit
- The feeling of not knowing where your life is going
- Difficulty setting boundaries
- Decisions you want to make with a sense of direction
Sessions are in English or Spanish, whichever you prefer, and last one hour. Individual therapy · Couples therapy
How I work
How do I work?
I work from a person-centred approach and from logotherapy. The first puts the therapeutic relationship at the centre: a safe space where you can show yourself as you are. The second puts meaning at the centre: where you want your life to go, and which decisions bring you closer to that.
I listen, and I also challenge you. My work is not only to keep you company while you tell me what is happening: it is to help you develop tools and draw on resources that will serve you for the rest of your life.
What matters most to me in a session is finding the way to help you direct your decisions, coherently, toward the goals you want to reach. That is what creates change, and it can be a very real challenge.
In the first session I focus on getting to know you and on understanding a little about your life and the reasons that led you to begin your therapeutic process. We do an initial assessment and, from there, we begin to set out your therapeutic goals.
In my own words
Why do I do this?
I write this in the first person because it is what I would say in a first session. Here I explain why I chose psychology, what matters to me when I work with someone, and what I will ask of you along the way. It is the longest and most personal text on this page.
I chose to devote my professional life to psychology because, for as long as I can remember, I have had an immense curiosity about understanding the people around me, and myself. That curiosity naturally led me to develop the skills that today allow me to build a deeply warm therapeutic relationship: a safe space between client and therapist, out of which the transforming moments that mark the progress of therapy emerge.
Ten years of experience later, what matters most to me in a session is finding the way to help people direct their decisions, coherently, toward the goals they want to reach. This is what genuinely creates change and wellbeing, and it can be a very real challenge. Listening alone is not enough for that: my work is also to challenge you, so that you can develop tools and draw on resources that will serve you for the rest of your life and help you grow. Along the way you will have me at every step, because we will face each challenge that comes as a team. Your work is to dare to show yourself completely genuinely, and to keep making decisions that let you discover new parts of yourself, of your life, and of the people around you.
Therapy works when your will and your actions are aligned and both point toward a goal; that is what we are going to learn to do together. Whether you have never been to therapy or have been through it before, I invite you to begin a new process with me. In the first session I will focus on getting to know you and understanding a little about your life and the reasons that brought you here. We will do an initial assessment, and from there we will begin to set your therapeutic goals. Together we will look closely at where you are now, and I will help you make conscious decisions aimed at meaningful change in your life and at resolving the obstacles in your way. So book your first session. It will be a pleasure to meet you.
